232 MILLS OF COUNTY DOWN
Editorial Design
‘232 Mills of County Down’ is a publication that has been designed to pay homage to the mills and the people that worked there. This 232 page-book, printed on blue, white and grey paper; is reflective in both format and colour of the linen industry. When flax was grown commercially in Ireland from as early as the 11th Century, it was known as the “Wee blue blossom”. This book has been designed to make a powerful impact, displaying how an industry that once upon a time held so much space and value in Ireland, an industry that was vital to Ireland’s economic development has drastically diminished. The content of ‘232 Mills of County Down’ has been gathered from various sources including interviews, archives & research.

This book pieces together this information on the history of County Down’s forgotten mills, mills that no longer exist or structures now remembered more for their architecture than for the industry that once thrived within them.
